Michael Linstrom is a master colorist whose work has been exhibited and collected throughout Europe, Australia and the United States in a career spanning three decades. Schooled in the traditions of American Impressionism through his early instructor, Jean Swan Gordon, his education is only two generations removed from Charles Hawthorn’s Cape Cod School. Another influence was his long term friendship with the late great Russian Impressionist, Sergei Bongart, who had a school in Southern California.
Whether painting still life, landscape or abstracts, Michael’s work is about color and the effects of light. There is a vitality and sense of movement through his work. Often, he moves beyond a literal representation of his subject matter going directly to it’s essence and conveying his personal view. His paintings are always life-affirming and uplifting.
Michael has lived and exhibited in Europe and the United States. He is a popular “art coach” for professional and advanced art students. His “Color Workshops” and Life Drawing Classes have become a fixture in Northern California, where he resides.
