ARTIST STATEMENT

We can never upstage the beauty of nature. I have been trying to create a timeless beauty on paper or canvas. I’m still trying hard to achieve this goal. Hopefully, one day in the future, I will reach that goal.

I love plants and flowers very much. When I was a little girl, I always liked to run and walk with my bare feet, running around the pond and creek with a crown of wild flowers on my head. I laid on the grass and smelled the fresh air in the open field when my family visited the Paris Farm in Aberdeen every summer. When I was about thirteen years old or younger, I enjoyed painting landscapes or flowers in the countryside. Most of the time, I’d draw and paint at home. Books were my teachers. When I was a little older I studied with private teachers who influenced my art. I like all subjects in my paintings: landscape, flowers, still life, people, and animals with oil, watercolor, and pastel. Watercolor is my favorite medium.

In 1997, I reached a turning point. Lessons from Michael Linstrom taught me how to see light and colors. His influence opened a totally new world of color. Since 1999, I have been in love with floral patterns on a pristine sheet of white paper. In these paintings, there is no background and no table; the floral arrangement is floating on paper. The abstract negative shapes look like an interesting puzzle. The lines are graceful, and the colors are charming. It creates a unique vibration for the viewer.

I have been growing my own plants and flowers since 1999. Self-grown flowers give me a chance to understand my subjects, know them and feel their inner beauty more. When I’m painting, I feel I’m painting a portrait of my children. It’s warm, peaceful and spiritual. The organic negative shapes, the lines and the colors let me go back to Mother Nature.

I enjoy sharing my Artwork with others. By some special grace, since 2000 my paintings have been included in many private collections in America, Canada, Asia and Germany.

Along with painting, I also teach art to young children. I share what I enjoy with these young minds. Art opens a new dimension in their lives; it lets them hold a pencil and use a brush to paint, instead of a computer. Art allows children to express their feelings and instills a sense of peace in their minds. Creating with colors enriches their future and ultimately enriches ALL our LIVES.
